What is the dress code?

Our dress code is first and foremost, comfort! Casual/business casual. While there will be familiar activities like presentation sessions you traditionally see at conferences, we are also going on field trips into the community of Tucson on the Thursday Learning Excursions! We will be entering community establishments, schools with students, museums etc. There will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Dress comfortably, layers are encouraged, and be prepared for some walking to be involved when considering footwear.

What is the weather going to be like?

Tucson is situated in the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona. Like any desert, the temperatures can range from close to freezing to very dry and hot. During our week together, average lows are in the low 40s, and average highs are in the mid-50s. Check the latest forecast here. Layers are encouraged for both being out in Tucson as well as variable A/C in the hotel itself.

What can I expect on the Learning Excursions?

Each Learning Excursion has a unique itinerary and location(s), but in general good walking shoes, a backpack/tote to carry your laptop/tablet, handouts and folders in, a water bottle, and a curious and open mind!

What should i bring with me to the conference?

Your whole self, an open heart, and willingness to be an adult learner. Also a laptop/tablet and charger, notebook, business cards perhaps. We are hoping to reduce our environmental impact and provide most session materials digitally so having a device on which to access those is key!

Will there be transportation to/from the Loews property and the airport?

Yes! We do not want to inundate the Loews with a slew of rental cars. Because the Loews is located a ways away from the TUS Airport, we will be providing routine airport shuttles, operating on Tuesday 2/14 and Friday 2/17. These will be 2 Sprinter vans running in rotation, so you shouldn't have to wait too long for a next one if one is full.

If you decide to take a taxi/ride share, this will be at your own cost unless otherwise arranged.

ESTIMATED SHUTTLE SCHEDULE:
 

  • Tuesday 2/14 estimated pickup at airport times: 10, 10:30, 11:30, 12:00, 1:00, 1:30, 2:30, 4:00, 4:45

  • Friday, 2/17 estimated pickup at Loews times: 10, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15, 1:00, 1:45, 2:30, 3:15, 4:00

 

The shuttle provider is Diamond Transportation. The meeting spot will be the Welcome Lounge A on the Baggage Claim level of the TUS airport - the airport is small enough to walk easily between if you arrive in the other terminal. Gathering Safely - Covid Policy

The Tides Center, our fiscal sponsor, requires us to collect COVID vaccination status for those attending an in-person gathering. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with submitting a quick status declaration. Submit your declaration at this link here.

  • Vaccines and up-to-date boosters are strongly recommended. If you are unvaccinated, masking is required.

  • Wash your hands often and thoroughly!

  • Masking indoor or outdoor is optional and up to personal discretion and choice (see above).

  • Red/yellow/green stickers will be on hand at the registration table to add to your name tag to indicate if you are comfortable being approached, hand shaking, hugging etc. Please honor folks' choices and respect these indicators. When in doubt, simply ask!

  • If you feel unwell or have or develop symptoms of Covid-19 such as sneezing, shortness of breath, a new cough, runny nose, fever, and/or body aches, PLEASE consider staying home or isolating yourself if you develop these symptoms while at the convening.
